I've been working on a new indie game project for a couple of months now, this time involving my friend and excellent artist Jonas Dahlin.
I don't want to spill the beans on what this project is, but it marks my first endeavour to create a "professional" independent game, targeted for digital distribution. This also means that I have shifted my focus away from releasing my games via the Spell of Play community. For the time being my legacy games are still available from Spell of Play, but this may or may not change in the future.
I spent the last week in Malmö developing this upcoming game IRL together with Jonas (as opposed to working together remotely). This has definitely resulted in an expansion of the ambitions of the game, at least in the art department, but that is really in line with my intentions when involving Jonas in the first place.
One of the things that I really like about working this way is that every person involved with the project (one artist and one programmer) is responsible for actually creating the things that we decide we want to include in the game. This means that we tend to keep things sane and do-able, while still pushing and inspiring each other to do better stuff. I guess this mindset makes sense when you are paying your own development costs... :)
We're shooting for having this game finished by the end of August, at which time we will start submitting it to various digital publishers. Stay tuned for updates!
