The Whiskey Sessions started when three old (by this point) musicians met to get reacquianted and drink som whiskey. The whole think quickly turned into a recurring even about booze, music, and on-the-spot creativity. We get together, pop the cork, and get cracking on writing a song. The goal is to compose, write lyrics, perform and record an entire song in a single evening, preferably before the neighbors start banging on the wall or the audio interface burns up. We often mix and master when we've had a chance to sober up, but we are proud to challenge ourselves to achieve all of this in a short period of time. And it's a lot of fun too...... See below for music, lyrics and photos from each time The Whiskey Sessions have met, in reverse chronological order. the ballad of chicken boy.mp3 (mix: johno) he woke up on a sunday morning heard the goddamn rooster crow another day of feeding chickens and watching the barley grow he was the son of a chicken farmer but he couldn't really stand the smell he had a dream of going farther all the way to the NFL but when he was in highschool he was kind of build like a chicken he never made it on the football team so everybody told him 'you should forget about the pigskin...' but he held on to his dream eleven herbs and spices was the secret recipe it was his family's fame and fortune it was his goddamn legacy he said 'I'm sick of the brain-ass Colonel any more and my brain'll explode enough! enough!' he kissed his ma and he left Kentucky made his way down the country road with a little bit of whiskey and a whole lot of moonshine he kept on walking towards the sea he ended up in Moscow and he thought 'how the fuck I get to Russia!?!?' but he was in Tennessee after a whole lot of crazy adventures that is too say eventually he ended up on the streets of Nashville and met a girl name of Maddy Lee at the time I was still a waitress but I sang at the Haphn Hall for a month he was my lover he gave me up 'cause he loved the ball he went to Mississippi and he spent some time in Texas he headed out west to Mexico I guess you're kind of wondering was he still thinking 'bout the football but I guess we'll never know After a session on new year's eve only produced an out-of-tune jam we felt it was time to write something. johno had an idea that was inspired by the music in the game Gluey that Mad had played an entire day. It ended up being Maddie-Lee's second country hit (be sure to check out Needle In The Haystack). Peen feel asleep in the sofa and Mad worked hard on her accent under stringent critique from johno. It's a ballad about a boy raised as a chicken farmer in Kentucky who dreams of something more... We even learned a bit of american geography; did you know that there is a Moscow in Tennessee?
